Benefits of Working In a Data Center

As the Internet continues to grow and produce large amounts of traffic the need for data centers and data center management increases. This continued growth creates data center jobs and IT careers in the technology field. Data Centers not only provide large hubs for Internet traffic, but it also completes the network infrastructure of most mid-large size companies. Data centers usually house thousands of computers, servers, and technical components. This in itself tells why it is a tremendous benefit to working within a data center. Just the amount of knowledge you can gain while on the job is rewarding enough. Having a data center job puts you on the bleeding edge of technology and hi-tech equipment. By working in a data center you will naturally be more advance than your peers who work in different industries experienced in technology.

Data center jobs consist of many different job types which fall under information technology, such as: system administration, network administration, IT security, computer operations, help desk support, server administration, pc repair, engineering, and so much more. If you ever been to school for a computer-related field or you always had an interest to work with computers then working in a data center should have been at the top of your list. Though, most do not consider data center jobs when looking for a job in the information technology field. This is mainly because data center jobs are merely overlooked. Most individuals consider working for a company or corporation in an industry other than data centers, mainly in a company like where they previously worked, before being technically inclined. Gaining a data center job is exactly why you went to school or aligned yourself within the technology field of work.

Data centers are inhabited with individuals who are fairly intelligent, usually skilled professionals with an educational background. The benefit of surrounding yourself with knowledgeable individuals is that it enhances your own technical aptitude and empowers your keen technical sense. Another benefit to working in a data center is many times the operations are around the clock (24/7), which means you may have the option of being flexible and working flex schedules, at your leisure. The biggest benefit of working in a data center is “stability”. The fact being that so many operations, calculations, and transactions depend solely on data centers - society cannot afford to lose data centers. Data centers will always be around and continue to thrive, so this means data center jobs will never fall short. Even in the wake of economic hardships, data centers still did not take a plunge or lose its clarity. If you are reading this article right now, then more than likely at some point a data center involvement allowed me to deliver this article to you. Data center jobs are for life!

Why We Designed Our Own NAS Servers For Use In Our Data Center

Over the past few years, we at Technetium, Inc. have had the opportunity to deal with Snap because of our model 14000 Snap servers. One day we installed new managed switches and the Snap Web-based management console would no longer operate. It would just hang at gigabit speed. To make a long story short, after exhausting all of my options on the Internet, I sent Snap technical support an email to try and resolve the problem. Here is their response:

Your case, 000000000005476, was updated. Please refer to the information below for our response. Please Click here if you need additional support on this issue.

Please do not reply to this email as it will not be seen by a live representative.

Your Query:

I have 2 snap 12000s and they will not negotiate 1000tx to my Dell Powerconnect 5324 switch. I'm afraid to set the nic in debug to anything other than auto.

It also shows half duplex when the switch shows full duplex.

Thank you in advance,

Todd Foster

Our Response:

Good morning Todd.

Again this is not technical support. We can be reached on a pay-per-incident of $120.00 through our 2 numbers: 408-934-7274 and 321-207-2000.

Sincerely,
Adaptec Customer Service

To my dismay, they wanted $120 just to talk to me, and my bet is they wanted another $1,000 or so to upgrade the software. On their Website I could not find any way to buy support for this model any more. And by the way, to add replication between 2 of their Snap servers, it would cost something like $1,000 per box.

So, here we are, with 2 boxes, no support, and I'll bet that you can't even buy parts for it any more from Snap, much less anywhere else (maybe eBay?).

Off we go to buy new NAS replacements. Originally these 14000's were $10K apiece, for roughly 1TB of storage. All things being equal, I should be able to buy a NAS box for really cheap (yeah right!). What I found was that a high-quality NAS system that would do RAID 5 would cost between $3,500 and 4,500, not to mention that a 1TB Snap 520 would be over $5K. That is when we decided to build our own NAS servers!

With a great backround in PC/server hardware, it was easy for me to pick top-quality hardware and brand name components. I still have Pentium Pro servers that work! I chose the best hardware, put it in a rack mount server case, and voila! I have a NAS server. Here is the list of components:

* FreeNAS redone to work with the hardware that we provide
* Kingwin 4 in 3 Multi-Drive Bay SATA Internal Hot Swap Mobile Rack, w/ Key Lock, LED Indicator & Two 40mm Cooling Fans
* SONY Beige DDU1615 Internal EIDE 16X DVD-ROM Drive
* Enermax ELT500AWT 500W Power Supply
* 4U IPC-4071 Rackmount Chassis Server Case - Beige Color
* Transcend TS256MCF45I-D flash card
* 4 ea. Seagate(ST3500630NS)500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s 7200RPM 16MB Buff Hard drive
* Addonics ADSACFW CF to SATA adapter
* SUPERMICRO|MBD-PDSME+
* 3WARE 9650SE-4LPML SATAII RAID controller
* INTEL XEON 3060 775 2.4G 4M
* 1Gx2|Kingston DII667 KVR667D2N5K2/2G

We need an OS now, and for that I picked FreeNAS (http://www.freenas.org) which runs on FreeBSD. You can't ask for a more stable operating system. And by the way, the FreeNAS OS runs from memory and boots from a CF card (no chance of the hard drive crashing and destroying the config). This custom built NAS system has turned out great, and our client is very pleased with the money we saved them.

Healthcare Providers--It's Time For Your Checkup!

I think this is a good time for a checkup, or physical as it is termed in the healthcare industry. I mean this is a good time to check the health of your site or setting. As healthcare providers, we are dedicated to curing our patients of their ills and keeping them healthy. My question is, “Do you have the same attitude about the place you work?” Is your site meeting its highest goals? If not, then it is time for a change.

I think that as a group healthcare sites are a lot like our patients. Some patients don’t work hard at keeping healthy. In fact, many engage in behavior that is very detrimental to their well-being. You probably can easily image such a person. Maybe they are very overweight. Well, there are many healthcare facilities that are like that. They have many processes in which there are steps which add no value, that are a complete waste of time and effort. Then, there are patients who do a lot of the right things. They eat correctly, get a good amount of exercise, and generally have a positive outlook. There are a few healthcare facilities that are fit too.

What does a healthcare site in not so good shape look like? These sites, I believe, have as their goals just to meet their compliance standards, those set by the state, JHACO, or the FDA or some other body. As long as they are being accredited, they are satisfied. Their attitude may be, “If it isn’t broken, don’t change it.” They are like patients who are content to just sit on the couch, watch TV, and eat whatever they like as long as they don’t feel poorly.

What does a healthcare site in good shape look like? I believe that such sites are continually looking for ways to better themselves. They engage in “continuous quality improvement” activities. They are really concerned about the health and attitudes of their patients and clients. They use surveys and they question and listen. Some even use a tool called quality function deployment when designing new facilities or programs.

Besides listening to patients, they pay close attention to their employees. They actively seek ideas from the employees on how things could be done better. They want to have their employees enjoy working at their site and support its mission. The leaders of such sites actively reflect this attitude.

Further, such sites seek ways to improve the processes at their site. They cut waste and save time and improve the bottom line. Many tools for doing this can be found in quality disciplines such as Lean Healthcare and Six Sigma. You can find a very good white paper on Lean Healthcare at the http://www.IHI.org website.

What are the results of these positive and active approaches? Our patients are happier, fitter, and find time to do the things they want. They generally live longer with fewer health problems. Healthcare sites which are actively engaged in continuous quality improvement programs generally find that they have the time to accomplish their objectives and don’t feel rushed, they have an improved bottom line, and they rarely experience adverse events. The doctors don’t have to work impossible hours to accomplish all they want. They work as a team.

Let me encourage you at this time to sit down with your colleagues and leaders and assess the health of your site. If you find that you fall short of what you should be, I hope that you put in the effort to reach the best goals. After all, we expect the same from our patients, don’t we?

7 Tips To Improve Your Golf

It's when you start to play golf that you learn fastest. If you have bad golfing habits today, you probably learned them when you first took up golf. But the good news is that anyone can break bad habits and learn good ones. Here are a couple of tips to help you on your way to playing better golf.

1. Your aim is vitally important. If you can't send the ball in the right direction you will never get it in any of the holes. The clubface is the only thing that propels the ball, so line up the clubface with the target first, then take your stance with your shoulders parallel to the target line.

2. Always aim away from potential problems. Tee the ball on the side where the problem is. This will help to keep the ball in play and avoid penalties.

3. Bad wrist action equals a bad shot in 90 percent of cases. Keep the left wrist flat in relation to the back of the left forearm and the back of the left hand, and don't swing the club back farther than shoulder turn.

4. Read the green properly. A golf ball will generally roll away from a hill and towards a water source. So, keep this in mind and adjust as necessary.

5. The grain of the green is important too as it effects the roll. Shiny grass show the grain running away from you, and dull grass highlights the grain running towards you. Putts with the grain go faster and further. Those against the grain go slower and less far.

6. Your shoulders should follow your swing. They should be passive and not lead. Remember that your shoulder movement will determine the direction that your club, and therefore the ball, will travel.

7. Place the golf ball on the ground and take your stance in such a way that the shadow of your head covers the ball. Make your swing keeping your eyes on the shadow. If the shadow moves off the ball you have lost the proper swing center. If you keep the shadow on the ball, even though it moves a little, you have maintained the correct swing position.

Revolutionizing Electric Shavers

Shaving of the beard, moustache, or other excessive facial and body hair has been passed on from generation to generation as early as 100,000 BC, or the stone age. It began when man started pulling hair from his body. It is also said that according to ancient cave paintings, man used two seashells as improvised tweezers to remove hair from the face. By 30,000 BC, the flint blade was used as the earliest shaving razors. Early shaving razors get easily dull and either needs to be disposed or sharpened very often. As years went by, other tools to remove facial and body were invented. In the late 1800s, King Camp Gillette originated the idea of a disposable razor blade. Little did he know that his bright idea would serve as an inspiration for future shaving tools. Several years after the First World War, in 1927, US Army Lt. Col. Jacob Schick invented the world's first electric dry shaver with oscillating blades. This breakthrough opened the doors for developing more revolutionized and quality electric shavers.

Kinds of Electric Shavers

Electric shavers come with either foil or rotary cutting razor blades. The kinds of shavers don't really matter, it just depends of the user's comfortability and use. However, most of women's shavers use foil cutters.

Foil Electric Shaver

A foil electric shaver has one or two floating heads designed to glide over facial contours, with razor cutters that oscillate behind a perforated screen. Several people attest that foil shavers, on the average, beat the men's rotaries by a whisker for the closest and cleanest shave.

Rotary Electric Shaver

On the other hand, a rotary shaver has three or four floating heads designed to glide over facial contours, with razor cutters that spin behind a very fine grid. Rotary shavers tend to be more quiet to use and easier to clean than foil shavers.

In caring for one's electric shaver, foil and cutter sets need to be replaced at least once a year. As the cutter gets duller, the foil gradually gets thinner with it. Replacing the cutter with a new and sharp one under a thinning foil can break a hole in the foil which could lead to a cut or razor bump.

Electric Shaver Features

Aside from being informed of the pros and cons of the kinds of electric shavers, one should also consider the features one should find and look for in a shaver.

Battery Charger

When purchasing an electric shaver, the package should always have a battery charger. A fully-charged battery may take 1 to 12 hours on standby and should provide at least seven shaves. Several models allow a five-minute emergency charge, which is good for one shave.

Automatic Shut-off

In line with the battery charger, it is also convenient and energy-saving if the charger shuts off automatically when the battery is fully charged. Like other electric gadgets, the battery charger plug needs to be pulled out from the socket as soon as the shaver is fully charged. Overcharging might reduce the shaver's battery life.

Power Cord

Nowadays, quite a number of electric shavers come with an electrical cord that lets one shave by plugging in the electrical cord. This is a very useful feature if one forgot to recharge the battery.

Ease of Cleaning

For electric shavers to have a longer use and life, it should also be taken care of. Some shavers come with a small cleaning brush, some can be rinsed clean, and some have a self-cleaning system that pumps a sanitizing liquid through the razor cutters. One tip for cleaning shavers is to let the razor to air dry naturally because drying it on a towel can dull the blade.

Wet and Dry Shaving Feature

There are also wet and dry electric shavers that provide multi-purpose shaving features. It is better to have both features on one tool rather than multiple tools for a single task.

I'm Syed Irfan. I window shop online to find the latest and hottest trends and gadgets and all the best deals that go with it. I know where to shop for what and I love to share my opinions and findings. If you found the above article useful, please visit my web site http://philipselectricshaver.net/ to find out more.

Mens Electric Shavers | Men's Electric Shaver

Electric Shaver For Easier Use and Smoother Effect

More and more men and women nowadays are switching over to use electric shaver rather than the old straight edge ones. It is more preferred nowadays because aside from its convenience, it is time saving and money saving too.

When using disposable shaver, you need shaving cream and after shave before and after. You don't need more time just to have a good shaving job done. Aside from the longer time spent in applying, it costs you extra money for these two accessory products to be used. You also need to change dull razors often and these razors are expensive.

So it will cost you more.

Electric shavers sharpen and clean automatically. It can also be used at any type of skin. Some teenagers hate disposable razors because straight razors can cut their pimples making the pimples to bleed and becomes bigger.

Mothers and older women too ingrown hairs and small rashes in underarms or legs with straight razors.

It is also convenient to use. If you forgot to shave, you can have it in a comfort room and even without making your face wet or without creams and after shaves.

Electric shavers are super smooth to use and also gives good appearance. It results in a more professional shaving job as compared to disposable ones. This is because it works very closely to your skin.

For proper use of electric shaver, take note of the tips below:

a. Get the correct type: rotary type for light beards and foil type for conventional way of shaving.
b. Shave when your face is dry. This will give a closer shave. (You any wash your face first with a shaving wash and put pre-shaving lotion or cream if you want to. Just let the skin absorb it first before shaving).
c. Shave horizontally and "against the grain".
d. For easier cut, stretch the hair upright with your finger.
e. Apply lightly and let the shaver do the work to lessen irritation.
f. Shave daily if time permits. Electric shavers are more effective on shorter beards because it can cut slowly on shorter hairs. It is also less painful.
g. Shave the more sensitive areas first because it will generate heat a few minutes after you turned it on.
h. If you have sensitive skin, apply baby powder first to reduce friction.
i. Choose one with built-in gel dispenser to minimize skin irritation.
j. Keep it away from stray hairs to avoid hairs from being pulled and clog the shaver.
k. Get one with auto cleaning action and also washable.
l. For battery operated shavers, get reserve batteries.
m. Change the foils and cutters when needed; and
n. Follow the proper cleaning and maintenance guides.

I hope these tips can enlighten your preferences and how to use electric shaver properly. There are more than enough reasons to start using one. Cost, convenience and comfort on your skin. With these reasons, I am pretty sure you will be using one sooner than you imagine.

The Advantages of Taking an Online Nursing Course

With so many quality nursing programs available online, the advantages of taking an online nursing course are many. If you are considering this type of program and are curious to know more of the benefits, read on.

Any Type of Nursing Degree is Available Online

No matter what type of nursing degree you are interested in obtaining, you can find it online. From an entry-level Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to a Registered Nurse (RN) degree, or even a master's or PhD program, you can find it online.

Online Nursing Programs are High Quality

You need to do a little research on this, but many online nursing programs are accredited. The accreditations you want to look for are through either The National League of Nursing Accreditation Commission or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). These professional nursing organizations review each program before giving it their approval. Also, before you enroll, verify that the program will count toward your state's licensing requirements. Most accredited programs will.

Learn at Your Convenience

One of the advantages of taking an online nursing course is that you can learn from the convenience of your home and often on your own schedule. Many programs offer courses asynchronously, which means that you study materials on your own time and submit assignments by the due dates. This means that if you want to attend class at midnight, for example, you can.

More Options

The advantages of taking an online nursing course are many, and another good example is the wide range of programs available. When attending traditional schools, you are limited to the degree programs offered. However, with online learning, you can choose from a wide range of programs. This allows you to tailor your learning to your interests and career goals.

Expand Your Network

When you learn online, you meet people from all over the globe. From a networking perspective, this is great news. Additionally, you can develop friendships with people from different cultures and perspectives, which can greatly enhance your ability to relate to others—a necessary nursing skill.

Introduction to Online Nursing Schools

Online nursing schools are available to all nurses who are looking to expand their academic horizons. These programs offer degree programs in LPN, RN, bachelor of nursing, master of nursing, and also a PhD program in nursing. Choosing a program depends on several factors. If a person wants to become a nurse, they will have to see if the program accepts those with no prior nursing experience. For those who are returning to school, they have to decide which direction they want to take their career. A nurse can obtain their RN license after going to school for two years, or they can stay and earn an RN with a four-year degree. The more education a nurse has, the more they could earn.

Online nursing schools offer many programs to those who would like to specialize in a certain area of nursing. For those who want to work in burn units, child wards, elderly care facilities, or the forensic science field, continuing one’s education will help them get the jobs they are the most interested in having. Enrolling in one of these programs is similar to enrolling at a college or technical school. A nurse will have to provide transcripts from other institutions they attended and then supply a work history if applying for programs that require prior work experience. Many programs do require this, especially higher level education such as a master’s degree. One or two personal references may be needed depending on the program.

Once accepted, the school will send the computer requirements needed to receive all class requirements, online videos and other correspondence an instructor might send. Online nursing schools are primarily work at one’s own pace but time management is up to the student and all assignments must be completed in the time allotted. There is more time given than in a traditional class room setting, but it is still expected that people put in the work needed to complete the degree. An online nursing degree can be a wonderful asset to anyone’s career.

Download iTunes Tips - How to Download MP3s to Your iPod

Have you ever wanted to download iTunes MP3s to your iPod? Maybe you're a high school or college student attending multiple classes and you downloaded the MP3 audio of the lecture from the school's website. Or maybe, you were fortunate enough to have a great instructor who has provided you with an MP3 CD containing a lecture you missed.

Mom has called and wants you home this weekend to celebrate Grandma's 80th birthday knowing full well you have a midterm on Monday. A real dilemma. You need to keep Mom and Grandma happy, but you also need to study for Monday's mid term. I can't help with Mom and Grandma, but putting MP3's of class lectures into your iPod so you can listen to them while you're driving back and forth to school is a snap! I"ll tell you why. As an MP3 user, you already play audio files from your favorite musicians with Apple iTunes on your computer. These same files can be copied or downloaded from your PC to your iPod.

I'll tell you how. The beauty of iTunes is that it keeps a database of the songs, lectures, or any other digital recordings you have downloaded from the internet or uploaded from CD's. This digital "database" is called your library. Sounds complicated right? Well, it's not. Here's a little known fact about iTunes. The iTunes database is basically just an electronic pointer to where you have stored your MP3 audio flies. If you mistakenly add the same digital recordings more than once, the programming logic just updates the pointer.

If you have MP3 audio files on a CD or DVD, copy them first to your hard drive. This is especially smart if you use a laptop. Ever have a time where you wanted to listen to a favorite CD on the road or at Starbucks. Then you realized you left the CD at home and had not yet ripped them to your hard drive. Unfortunately, I have made that same mistake too many times to ever want to own up to it. Here is a very important reminder important when ripping music to your hard drive. Make sure you establish a logical filing system for your MP3's so you can tell iTunes where to retrieve the data at a later date.

From the main menu under file, select add file to library to add one, or maybe a few MP3's or select add folder to library to add all the MP3 files in a folder (or directory for Windows users). Shazaammm....your new files are added to your library. Finally, synchronize our iPod and listen to your new additions.

Debt relief 101: Understanding your options and avoiding the scams

The total consumer debt in the United States has ballooned to over two trillion dollars a full 100% greater than it was just a decade ago. As a result more people than are in need of debt relief services. But like with all burgeoning industries, there are a number of scams and ineffectiveness in many debt relief services. As a result, it is important that consumers considering debt relief know their options.

Debt Consolidation

The most well-known form of debt relief is debt consolidation. The principle behind debt consolidation is that by combining the many small debts, many of which are very high interest such as credit cards, under a single lower interest loan, you can get control of your debt. Under the single lower interest loan, the overall cost of servicing the debt, that is your total monthly payment, is lower than the combined total of the many smaller debts. That at least is the theory behind all debt consolidation programs.

Many programs go further, however, by limiting your discretionary spending. The theory goes, that because you have accumulated so much debt through your own uncontrolled spending, the debt consolidation lender will in effect act as your accountant too. The limitations placed on you by debt relief programs range from prohibiting major purchases like as a new car or home, all the way to those organizations which take your paycheck before you get it, and then dole out to you the remainder. While the latter version sounds intrusive, and certainly it is, it may prove for some individuals the best option as it will force a rationing of discretionary spending. But one thing you can count on with almost every debt consolidation program is the requirement that you cut up all of your credit cards. As credit is the number one contributor to consumer debt today, that isn’t all that bad of an idea.

Creditor Negotiations

But debt consolidation isn’t the only option available to those in debt crisis. Another option is to hire a creditor negotiator. These services, usually under the name debt management or debt managers, mediate negotiations between you and your creditors in the hope of lowering your total debt. In effect, these individuals bargain with your creditors, threatening them with the possibility of you seeking bankruptcy (in which case they get almost nothing) to try to get them to lower the interest rate, or the principle of your debt. This can be a very effective method for those unable or hesitant to secure a new larger debt through a debt consolidation loan.

The problem with both of these options is that they do not come for free. While many organizations present themselves as non-profit or even public servants, the reality is that almost every agency is in business because of the profits they can make off of you. For example, many individuals in need of debt consolidation are so thankful to find a willing lender that promises to lower their monthly payment, that they fail to examine closely the loan contract they are offered.

The Negatives and Scams of Debt Relief Programs

A common scam is to hide huge “service fees” or “debt consolidation fees” in the principle of the loan. So, if for example you have $50,000 in outstanding debt, your debt consolidation lender may provide you with a loan as high as $80,000, where the extra $30,000 is comprised almost entirely of fees. The lender then extends the loan out for years and years, so that your monthly payment is actually lower and as a result you do not ask any questions. Another, even more devious scam is to vary the interest rate over the life of the debt consolidation loan. For example, the lender might offer you a loan in which for the first two years the interest rate is an extremely low percentage, say 4%. But very quickly, the interest rate balloons to something like 15% at which point you will no longer be able to make payments and must go back to the lender and “consolidate your debt” once again.

But debt consolidation lenders are not the only one’s trying to scam you. Creditor negotiators seem to offer a problem-free solution to your debt troubles. They offer to negotiate with your creditors, making the process seem infinitely more complex than it actually is. In truth, many individuals can simply negotiate with creditors themselves. The threat of bankruptcy is very real for many lenders, and as a result many are willing to offer you alternatives to the current high interest rates they are charging you. By cutting out the middle man credit negotiator, you can save much by way of charges, for the rather minimal hassle of calling the creditors yourself.

Both debt consolidation and debt management services fill important niches in a world where consumer debt is increasingly prevalent. It is important to remember, however, that these companies make money off of you. And because the industry is in a stage of rapid growth there are a great number of companies working on the edges of the law if not engaging in outright predatory lending. By entering the world of debt relief you are entering the world of scam artists and sub-prime lenders. Educating yourself before you enter the arena is the only way to ensure that you attain the best debt relief for you.

A Guide To Hypnosis

There are many stories about hypnosis and hypnotherapy being dangerous, turning people into chickens, people not being able to wake up, and unscrupulous hypnotists exploiting their 'vulnerable' patients. However there are many people who are adamant that it has helped change their lives, helping them succeed in their goals. Millions of people swear that it has helped them with many issues such as weight loss, quitting smoking, other addictions, confidence, phobias, stress, success, IBS, and many more issues.

Many people are missing out on this powerful yet safe therapeutic tool because they are too afraid to use it. I hope to dispel these fears by answering these common questions about hypnotherapy.

Can I be hypnotized? Most people can go into a hypnotic trance. The only types of people that cannot be hypnotised are ... 1. Those suffering from psychosis or a thought disorder 2. A person with a low IQ 3. A person does not want to be hypnotised. It is very easy to resist hypnosis if you want to. What is a hypnotic trance? It is a normal and natural state that most of us experience several times a day. It commonly happens when people are driving. Have you ever driven somewhere and not really remembered the journey? It also often occurs when reading a book or watching TV. Sometimes you can be so absorbed in the book or TV programme that you are not consciously aware that someone is talking to you. Hypnosis is the focussing of the conscious attention in such a narrow corridor of influence. The conscious mind is so intensely focussed that other influences are not being critically analysed by the conscious mind. We still hear them, although we are not always aware. A good example of this is when you are in a place where there are several conversations going on at once. They may all sound like a mass of background noise. However if someone in one of those conversations mentions your name, you then consciously focus on that conversation. How did you know someone said your name? Your subconscious mind (which is far more powerful than your conscious mind) was listening to EVERY conversation AT THE SAME TIME! That is perhaps a reason why you can sometimes "just know" something. Your subconscious mind has absorbed it without you consciously being aware.

What does hypnosis feel like? When in a trance you feel more mentally and physically relaxed. It is a very pleasant experience, and you can tell that you are still in control. You can still hear exactly what is going on around you, unless you choose to drift your attention away. You become aware that you can easily stand up, talk, or move whenever you want. A lot of people (me included) when they first experience a hypnotic trance move their fingers or hands in order to test whether they can move at will. Sometimes a patient can be a little difficult to wake up. This is not a sinister thing as it has been portrayed. No one has ever been stuck in trance. It is more a case that a patient just "can't be bothered" to wake up as it feels so pleasant. However they soon become bored and will wake up pretty soon. One trick the old hypnosis pro's use is to tell the patient that they are charging for the time. It's amazing how quickly they then wake up!

Is hypnosis dangerous? A hypnotic trance is actually a very natural state that almost everyone goes into several times per day. In 1955 the British Medical Association set up an inquiry which favourably reported hypnosis as a therapeutic tool. It even recommended that it should be taught at medical schools. Hypnosis was also approved by the Council of Mental Health of the American Medical Association in September of 1958 as a safe practice with no harmful side effects. Since then there has been acceleration in the establishment of hypnosis societies for doctors, dentists, and psychologists. No one has been seriously hurt with hypnosis.

Can I be made to do things against my will? You could never be made to do anything against your will or contrary to your value system. If this was actually possible, would there not be criminals learning the art of hypnotherapy in order to hypnotise their bank managers to opening the vaults and handing over a large sum of cash?! In a trance, you would not unknowingly reveal your deepest secrets. You can even lie when in a trance, which is one reason why testimony in hypnosis is not permissible evidence in a court of law. It is only used by police to help with the investigation. A person will only act upon suggestions that serve them in some way or reinforce an expected behaviour, anything else their subconscious will just ignore. Most people develop these misperceptions from seeing or hearing about a Stage Hypnosis show. However they largely achieve their results from showmanship, selection of the more extrovert people, and peer pressure.

How long will it take before I notice a change? In one session, you can expect to become more relaxed than you are right now. Most people do not relax enough, and some people never seem to relax! Being more relaxed can help most mental and physical problems that you may have. I have often had patients report back to me that people noticed that they seemed more relaxed after just one session. In the past I have significantly helped problems such as IBS, skin complaints, and addictions, simply by doing relaxation work. Hypnosis can bridge the gap between your head and your heart, making your goals much more emotionally compelling, and therefore increasing your chances of permanent change. Depending upon the intensity of your session and the number of times you have listened to the recording, you will notice suggestions for the desired behavioural changes spontaneously popping into your conscious mind almost immediately.
